The four modules focus on very practical and widely used applications of math. In each of the course modules students will learn: the history, vocabulary, and scope of each topic, the current issues and practical uses, the equations, approach and calculator use to solve problems, how to use the Web for resources and research. |

| Course Materials | This online version of Math 124 covers the same material as the on-campus class. The class will meet five times during the semester: at the beginning, at 4, 8, 12 weeks and for the final exam. For most of the semester, students will communicate with the instructor and each other via course Web pages, email, chat and fax. Students should have experience using a computer. | Learning Styles | Students will complete a learning styles inventory at the beginning of the course and provide feedback about their learning throughout the semester. Material will be presented using a variety of approaches to accomodate different learning styles. Students might
first read the discussion of topics in the text, or follow step by step examples of solving problems, or visit Web sites to run simulations and see the big picture. |

| Prerequisites |
Students may satisfy the prerequsite by successfully completing Math 120, Intermediate Algebra, or higher within last last two years or by taking the Assessment Test with the requsite score. |

| Assignments |
Coursework has been organized by week. Students will progress by: reading and responding to topics in the text or on the Web, submitting completed homework problems and written papers, providing feedback on the course. |

| Grades | Math 124 is a three-unit, transferable math course. Using the typical unit rule, students should expect to spend 12 hours per week corresponding with the class and completing the material.
