HOME SWEET HOME
Your task is to investigate and report on all the aspects of purchasing a home, condo, or townhouse: Find a prospective dwelling advertised in the paper or visit an "Open" home. How did you select this house? Describe the home using the the ad, listing or "fact sheet " for your choice. Investigate the cost of an 80% and a 90% loan including the application cost and the loan fees. Use feedback form to discuss problems, progress and report to your classmates via the class list. Use the Internet to find the best mortgage rates available for fixed and variable mortgages. Calculate all the costs to buy the home including loan fees and escrow costs. Calculate the monthly payment for each for 15 and 30 years. How much interest will you pay for each loan over it's lifetime? Submit the equivalent of a two page paper describing what you found and what you learned about buying a home. Your report needs to include all the relevant facts. You may work as a team but each student must write a separate report. In addition, reflect on your choice of a home and this transaction. What did you learn that was surprising? |
